Johnson Controls’ automotive designer recognized as a finalist in the 2013 World Technology Awards

PLYMOUTH, MICH., Dec. 19, 2013 – A designer for Johnson Controls, a global multi-industrial company with core businesses in the automotive and building industries, was honored as a finalist in the 2013 World Technology Awards competition.

Dinard Mata, who works as an automotive fabric designer in the supplier’s Automotive Seating division, was recognized in the annual World Technology Network (WTN) award competition, which honors 21st century visionaries with a focus on exploring the possibilities and importance of emerging technologies.

“I’m so honored to have been among the distinguished finalists in the World Technology Awards competition,” Mata said.  “I believe what sets my work apart is my preoccupation with finding solutions to human needs and developing concepts that enable natural interaction. I’m inspired by the opportunity to create new concepts, knowing there are no limits.”

One of Mata’s automotive concepts recognized by the WTN, “Project EYE,” was focused on urban mobility and co-developed with Fiat. The concept was developed to optimize space while transporting individuals in large cities. The EYE compact vehicle is gyroscopically balanced allowing the stabilized vehicle to monitor its surroundings and runs on an electronic propulsion system making it ecologically correct. A unique factor of this concept is its elliptical wheel, which allows the EYE to rotate on its axis making other irregular obstacles possible to navigate.

Mata has more than 10 years of experience as a designer, with an impressive list of concepts to his credit. Currently, he serves as senior fabric designer for Johnson Controls Automotive Seating in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Mata received a bachelor’s degree in publicity and advertising from FAMINAS, and a master’s degree in graduate design and digital technology from Fundação Armando Álvares Penteado.
