This March, IndustryWeek named the Adient Lerma, Mexico plant a 2017 Best Plants Award winner, noting how their teamwork, collaboration and problem-solving have led to significant improvements at the plant.
Jeff Klabunde, executive director of manufacturing excellence, Fernando Buchholz Valencia, Lerma plant manager; Juan Ortega, CI and BBP manager and Scott Rigonan, regional director of manufacturing accepted the award on May 9 at a special ceremony held in Raleigh, N.C. during IndustryWeek's Manufacturing & Technology Conference & Expo.
"I am very honored to receive this award and bring it back to Lerma," Fernando said. "This award is for all of the Lerma employees and represents their great work and engagement. They are the reason why we earned this award."
Our 835 employees at the JIT Lerma plant assemble single components such as metal frames as well as foam and complete seats for major automakers. Lerma also produces trim covers, which are part of the seat assembly.
When applying for the award, Lerma not only had to report accurate facts and figures; they also had to describe its products and manufacturing processes. "The Adient Manufacturing System [AMS] and its practices are the core of our daily manufacturing processes," said Fernando. "Consequently, AMS also played a key role in our application and illustrating our high operational levels."
IndustryWeek is one of the largest manufacturing and industry trade publications in the United States with a monthly audience of 754,000 readers (print, digital and social). According to IndustryWeek, the Best Plants Award "… annually recognizes plants, located in North America, that are on the leading edge of efforts to increase competitiveness, enhance customer satisfaction, and create a stimulating and rewarding work environment."
Congratulations to the entire Lerma team for this well-deserved recognition!
