Modular and distinctive: The all-new Recaro Performance Seat Platform stars at IAA 2017
Frankfurt, Germany, September 12, 2017 – “We observed a change of global market requirements in the relevant performance segments“, says Ingo Fleischer, vice president at Adient Specialty Seating. “To meet the increasing demands for performance, safety and comfort, we developed a new generation product platform. Our RPSP delivers advanced seating solutions for today and tomorrow, addressing a broad range of performance segments and vehicles.“
To deliver customized performance seating solutions at affordable costs, the Recaro Performance Seat Platform (RPSP) consists of three modules, providing varying levels of performance to appeal to both Power and Luxury segments. The core module is designed for Power Performance and Dynamic Performance market segments. Modules two and three address the premium and luxury performance market segments.
RPSP is designed for sports cars or high-performance derivates of volume-production vehicles in all relevant performance segments that combine sporty performance with riding comfort and unique style. This includes both, luxury and compact performance SUVs and sedans.
“RPSP will support OEMs in differentiating and underlining their respective brand and product DNA”, says Fleischer. “Each seat provides cutting-edge Recaro riding performance. Outstanding comfort features are combined with our renowned ergonomics, unique Recaro design, quality and craftsmanship to create individual interiors in the different performance car segments.”
On display at this year’s IAA are two RPSP versions representing the platform approach: One seat is based on a platform application for the Power Performance segment. In virtual reality applications in the Recaro booth, customers can get an impression of individual interiors for the different market segments. Also, they can design their individual RPSP: A 3D configurator with 360 degree views helps to choose materials, colors, trim and stitching options for the different areas of seat surface and exhibits the result.
Version two is a demonstrator with advanced design innovations, e.g. a visible, carbon fiber-woven backrest structure. This seat is aiming at the Luxury Power Performance segment.
The RPSP will be available as a Complete Seat solution with vehicle-specific base-frames or as a Composite Solution, which combines the RPSP backrest with an OEM seat base and - if required - with carry-over parts.
With this all-new product generation, Recaro Automotive Seating is well prepared for the requirements of future mobility: In terms of autonomous driving, connectivity, and individualization, RPSP will offer various smart functions such as health monitoring, driver conditioning, automated climatisation, drive mode seat adjustment, automated ingress/egress assistance or an electrical swivel function as an add-on. It meets higher safety standards and provides more functionality at the same weight, compared to former Recaro seat generations. Additionally, with its low block height and an H-point of 155 mm it leaves more room for battery packaging in the floor of electric vehicles.
